You know, I’ve had face to face conversations like this with people and the only thing I can say is: “You’re wrong.”  Because… in what world are they right?  Because if you think that you’d be okay if a woman hit you back, you’re missing the point.  The point is that no human being should ever raise a hand against another human being for any reason but self-defense.  Abuse is abuse.

And when people I know and love say this to me, all I really want to say is: “If you loved and respected me, you wouldn’t think that way.”  But you can’t really say something like that without revealing your history and the history of your mother and her siblings and my cousins and the stories of my best friends and the contents of our late night discussions.
